Idyllic times were they?
Of caring for the rule of law,
Times of regard for one another?
Of a homogeneous society,
Times when people believed like you?
A lie, this past
When happy homemakers
Loved their Amanas,
Joined the PTA,
Happily ironed shirts;
Baked goodies for the neighbors.
A Madison Avenue mirage
Staring Betty Furness.
This post war boom
Paid for with the
Lives of countless millions
And a reckless belief
In our own superiority.
We have much to learn
You and I.
